ADA compliant medical scales that meet the U.S. Access Board Medical Diagnostic Equipment (MDE) standards, from Health o meter Professional and Detecto. The Health o meter scales are independently reviewed for ADA compliance and Platinum certified by Corada. Health o meter is the only manufacturer offering a full portfolio of certified ADA compliant scales, and certified is not the same as "ADA-friendly." That distinction protects your facility during audits, inspections and accreditation reviews.

MDE Standards: Key Deadlines

New purchases, now: equipment bought after July 8, 2024 (HHS-funded providers) or October 8, 2024 (state and local governments) must meet the standards until the facility reaches its required share.
July 8, 2026 (HHS) and August 9, 2026 (DOJ): each facility needs at least one accessible exam table or chair and one accessible weight scale.
Ongoing: at least 10% of each type of equipment, and no fewer than one unit, must be accessible. Facilities that specialize in mobility rehabilitation need 20%.

What the Standards Require

Wheelchair scales: a platform of at least 32" wide x 40" deep, 2" edge protection on the platform and ramps, and a running slope no steeper than 1:8.
Stand-on scales: a slip-resistant platform and bilateral handrails with a maximum height of 34" to 38".
