Buying guide, comparison and FAQ
How to choose an ECG machine
- Screen and controls. The Edan SE-301 is a 3-channel unit with a 5" touch screen at about 2.2 lb (1 kg); the CP 150 has a 7" color touch screen; the SE-1200 Express pairs an 8.4" display with a keyboard; the ELI 280 has a full keyboard and large display.
- Interpretation. The CP150A, ELI 150c (adult and pediatric), SE-301 and SE-1200 Express (Glasgow) configurations include automatic interpretation; the SE-1515 DX12 includes Glasgow interpretation on a PC.
- Wired or wireless acquisition. Welch Allyn configurations come with an AM12 wired patient cable or a WAM wireless acquisition module (ELI 150c, ELI 230, ELI 280, Connex Cardio). Edan's PC-based SE-1515 comes as the DP12 (wired) or DX12 (wireless).
- Storage and connectivity. The ELI 150c stores up to 40 ECGs with Ethernet, USB and bidirectional DICOM; the ELI 280 stores 200 records with modem and optional 802.11 Wi-Fi; the SE-1200 Express stores 800 ECGs and exports PDF, SCP, FDA-XML and DICOM over LAN or Wi-Fi.
- PC-based ECG. Connex Cardio runs resting ECG on a PC and connects to your EMR; the Edan SE-1515 connects to HIS/EMR/PACS via HL7, DICOM or GDT and doubles as a data management system for standalone Edan ECGs.
- Spirometry. The CP 150 with spirometry adds spirometry to the ECG, and existing CP 150 units can take the CP 150 spirometry upgrade.

FAQ
What is the difference between AM12 and WAM?
AM12 is a wired acquisition module and patient cable. WAM is Welch Allyn's wireless acquisition module, so the patient leads are not tethered to the electrocardiograph. Most ELI and Connex Cardio configurations are offered both ways.
Can the ECG send results to our EMR?
Several can: the ELI 150c DICOM configuration supports bidirectional communication with a third-party data management system, the SE-301 supports DICOM Worklist/Storage and HL7, and the SE-1515 and Connex Cardio connect to EMR systems. Tell us your EMR on your quote and we'll confirm the interface.
Can I add spirometry to an ECG?
Yes, on the Welch Allyn CP 150: order the CP 150 with spirometry, or add the CP 150 spirometry upgrade to an existing unit.
Can we buy on a Vizient or Provista contract or request a quote?
Yes. Vizient and Provista members can request contract pricing; request a quote or call (800) 575-2375.
