Buying guide, comparison and FAQ
How to choose an electrosurgical unit
- Procedure mix: the System 5000 has General, Lap, Fluids, Pulse Coag, Pulse Cut, Micro Bipolar and Macro Bipolar modes for general surgery, urology, gynecology, arthroscopy, GI, neurology and ENT. The System 2450 covers Pure Cut, Blend, Standard and Spray Coag, and Micro and Macro bipolar.
- Minimally invasive and robotic work: System 5000 Lap mode limits output voltage to below 2,700 volts, and a custom activation cable is available for the da Vinci S and Si. The System 2450 has a serial port for integration with robotic or OR systems.
- Pad-site safety: the System 2450 includes ConMed's Automatic Return Monitor (ARM), which alerts staff if patient pad contact is compromised when used with compatible dual-pad electrodes.
- Office procedures: the Hyfrecator 2000 has a high output terminal for desiccation and fulguration and a low output terminal for delicate work, with dual microprocessors that stop activation if a safety hazard is detected.
- Mobility: the System 5000 comes as a complete package (60-8005-SYS) with mobile pedestal, baskets and footswitches; the Universal ESU Cart (60-5480-001) ships assembled.

FAQ
Does the System 5000 work with robotic surgery?
Yes. Lap mode is designed for robotic and minimally invasive procedures, and ConMed offers a custom energy activation cable for the da Vinci S and Si surgical systems.
Do I need a smoke evacuator with my ESU?
Electrosurgery produces surgical smoke, and 22 states now require hospitals and surgery centers to evacuate it. See the surgical smoke evacuation laws by state and our smoke evacuators.
Can we buy on our Vizient or Provista contract?
Yes. Vizient and Provista members can request contract pricing; request a quote or call (800) 575-2375.
